The Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) was established on January 26, 2011, with the core mission of safeguarding the interests of policyholders while regulating and fostering the orderly advancement of Bangladesh's insurance sector. Over the years, IDRA has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at fulfilling its responsibilities to both policyholders and insurers.

One of the notable advancements is the recent introduction of the Unified Messaging Platform (UMP), which serves as a comprehensive digital solution designed to enhance service delivery for policyholders and insurers alike. This platform transcends simple messaging services and is a foundational step towards achieving the national objective of digitalizing various aspects of everyday life, offering features such as Policy Repository, e-Receipt, e-KYC, e-Agent Approval, Business Intelligence tools, actuarial valuation, SMS notifications, email correspondence, a Policyholder Web Portal, and a dedicated Policyholder Mobile App.

The “UMP Policyholder Mobile App” is particularly significant, as it aims to furnish policyholders with essential information and services at their fingertips. In a concerted effort to modernize access to policy details, IDRA is converting critical data into a digital format referred to as e-policy. This digital documentation will be securely centralized within IDRA and will encapsulate pertinent information including the policyholder's profile, terms of the policy, premium payment history, and current policy status. Policyholders will be able to effortlessly access real-time updates regarding their policies through the UMP Policyholder Mobile App.

This initiative is anticipated to bridge existing information gaps between policyholders and their respective insurance providers, fostering direct communication channels. Such transparency is expected to enhance trust and loyalty among customers toward their insurers.
